
Maggie Jacobus is an American freelance writer currently based in Nosara, Costa Rica. She holds both a master's and bachelor's degree in journalism from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism in Chicago. She has worked as a reporter, correspondent and/or freelancer for newspaper, magazine, television and radio outlets over the past 20 years in Washington, D.C., Chicago, Milwaukee, Wis., and Madison, Wis., among others.
Currently, Jacobus is a contributing news reporter for The New York Times and is also a newspaper and magazine features writer. In the features realm, her area of expertise is holistic health and wellness and travel writing, and she has published more than 75 articles in the past few years in publications such as Yoga Magazine, Ode magazine, LA Yoga, The Exchange and The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Jacobus is the co-author of a forthcoming book on Singing Meditation.

The in-depth knowledge in the holistic health and wellness arena comes from extensive research and interviews with leaders in the field, along with hands-on experience. As co-founder of the Center for Complementary Medicine in Milwaukee, Wis. and a certified holistic lifestyle coach, Jacobus is uniquely qualified to cover local, regional and national stories regarding Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM), holistic health, wellness and spirituality. In addition, she has undertaken study in the fields of cosmology/quantum physics, the science of sound, breathwork and energy healing.
Jacobus' travel expertise comes from years of living and traveling abroad. Two years were spent living in Japan in the early 1990's and in the fall of 2005, Jacobus relocated her family to Nosara, Costa Rica. Her current travel writing focus is in the area of family adventure travel.
